The final performance of 9 to 5: The Musical will be September 6th
Rumors of this circled and were
denied in the early summer however, the shows closing today has been confirmed. The Post reported that Greenblatt, the producer of this musical along with other Showtime hits such as Weeds, Dexter, Nurse Jackie and The Tudors, flew into NYC to inform the cast this past Tuesday.
Adapted from the 1980 feature film, with songs by Dolly Parton, 9 to 5 began performances in April at the Marquis Theater. The Musical tells the story of the “office manager, Violet Newstead, who joins her fellow co-workers—frazzled divorcée Judy Bernly and sexy secretary Doralee Rhodes- to turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot of a boss”.
Though short lived on Broadway,9to 5 was nominated for Four Tony Awards, including Best Actress in a Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography as well as 15 Drama Desk awards, taking home the most received ever by a production in one year!
