It was the greatest ending to a preseason football game ever! Or so one announcer proclaimed after Tommie Hill scored a defensive winning touchdown in the final seconds against the Carolina Panthers. The exuberant words of the announcer, who will remain nameless, quickly turned into a lifeless chuckle as if to say, “It is only preseason, who cares?”

I can you tell you sir, Giants nation cares. We care that our run-stuffing pass-stifling defense came through in the end when it mattered most. We care that Eli Manning is second only to his brother in consecutive starts for active quarterbacks. We just plain care.

I use the term “we” loosely here. I am in no way affiliated with the New York Football Giants. I couldn’t hold the tackling dummy or carry the water bottles or even shine the helmets for my beloved G-Men. Well, I could probably shine the helmets if someone gave me the appropriate cleaner, rag and access to the equipment room, but I’m sure you follow. Does the fact that I looked at Joe Morris hanging on my wall while I played football games with GI Joes as a kid entitle me to claim “we” when referring to the Giants?  Doesn’t matter. I care.

Nice start to the season NY Giants. Break out those Jim Burt jerseys.
