Green Day: American Idiot Musical

The premier of Green Day’s American Idiot musical was held last night at New York’s St. James Theatre and opened to good reviews. Video trailer after the jump.

The cast is comprised of Green Day fans, who put a spin on the musical that is worth the trek to New York for a ticket to watch it.

Fans of Green Day know the group as one of the best rock bands of all time, but Idiot does have a sensative side, made apparent by the Broadway musical.

The musical features every song from the acclaimed album American Idiot, as well as a few from 21st Century Breakdown.

“As big a fan as someone is of Green Day, they might not even know how much dramatic potential is inside these songs,” director Michael Mayer said. “And they have never heard them sung in this way before, so I think they may have a deeper appreciation of what Billie Joe and Mike and Tre have written. I hope they do [come see it], because I am just continually astonished by their artistry and the power and the beauty of these songs.”
